Overview

Orang Laut (en. sea people) lives by the sea and made their living from fishing and selling fish products. Xin Chun and I visited the community at Bintan island in Indonesia as part of a college summer course and this video is the reflection (and memory) of our journey.

We captured every interesting moments of our trip as we visit the community. We wanted an authetic video that accurately represents the community’s voice, hence we took the initiative to interview the people there and their inputs to our topic were invaluable.

My Contributions

  • Together with Xin Chun, we brainstormed and drafted a few storyboards before getting started on our filming.
  • While Xin Chun is the animator, I edited the clips and did the voice-over for the video.
  • I was the translator (Indonesian to English) for our interview clips.

Outcome & Impact

I made lifelong friendships with my college seniors and batchmates through this Bintan trip. It will always be a fond memory and experience that I cherish deep down in my heart.
